Moj of the Antarctic
Moj of the Antarctic, An African Odyssey by Mojisola Adebayo
Lyric Hammersmith, Ovalhouse Theatre and British Council Tour of Africa. 2007

As a starving baby belches oil in a village in the Niger delta,
A grown man drives a 4 by 4 in a town in Jamaica,
And ancient islands ossify in Nigeria and the Gambia
While a woman runs a sunken bath in a town in West Yorkshire
And a girl pricks her finger in a sweat shop in Indonesia
Whilst the burn pumps an omen into the sky.
A little pin prick of pollution
Opens a hole in our protection.
The earth’s lungs are stretched
With the last gasps of a whale…
